Description

What Is Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)?

Intimate partner violence (IPV), defined as sexual violence, stalking, physical violence, and psychological aggression perpetrated by an intimate partner, affects nearly a third of all Americans at some point in their lives. Although IPV affects men and women of all ages, women, particularly young women and women of color experience IPV at higher rates.

People who are victimized by their partners are more likely to experience health problems and both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) have identified IPV has a significant public health issue in the US.

Youth need to be taught what is Healthy or Unhealthy behavior within relationships and what is okay and isn’t.  As there are far to many behaviors and mentalities that have been passed down for quite some time and have become normalized, taught and viewed as no big deal and continue to perpetuate cycles of violence and unhealthy relationships.
